Kate and her dancers are currently rehearsing CAR, a new movement installation created in collaboration with video artist Ricardo Rivera, composer Joshua Kerr Cicetti, and dramaturge Sebastienne Mundhiem. The second work in a trilogy of performance installations called “American Spaces,” Car will take place inside a moving vehicle. It will be performed for three audience members at a time, who sit in the backseat. They will be driven through the landscape of car culture (in parking lots, garages, and drive-thrus), witnessing and participating in movement events and interactive video installations. Car will unravel the secrets and history held in cars, using a seemingly ordinary space to create extraordinary movement events. Car will investigate the body of the performer/driver, the body of the spectator/passenger, and the body of the car itself.
The research and development of Car is made possible with support from the Map Fund, a program of Creative Capital supported by the Rockefeller Foundation, and Dance Advance, a program of the Pew Charitable Trusts administered by the University of the Arts, Susan Hess Choreographers Project, The Independence Foundation, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Whole Foods Market, Philly Car Share and The Philadelphia Live Arts Festival.
